Legal Work

As well as being an academic, Anna is an admitted solicitor, currently volunteering at Violet Co & Legal Consulting, a workplace and employment social enterprise and legal service. She did her practical legal training at Clayton Utz (Sydney) and has volunteered at the Redfern Legal Centre and Welfare Rights NSW. She is an active member of the Women Lawyers Association of NSW. With a first class honours Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney, she specialised during her studies in administrative and employment law and was awarded the top place in her cohort in employment law, with the Harmers Workplace Lawyers Prize in Employment and Industrial Law and the Sir Beattie Prize in Employment and Industrial Law. Her last book, Patterns of Exploitation, analyses 907 employment law court cases litigated by migrant workers and their representatives and has been read by judges across the Federal Court. She is regularly invited to speak at the Law Council of Australian Immigration Section conference and is an active member of the Australian Labour Law Association. Through her work as Vice President, Australian Institute of Employment Rights, she has co-organised the Annual Ron McCallum Debate in Employment Law, a premiere annual event in employment law and industrial relations.
